Quotes & Words

Why do we even care about quotes anyway?

How words have an impact.

It started when I was in primary school. I wasn’t much of an adamant reader until I was 9 years old. The stress of life got to me very fast. That’s when my mother and teachers had me falling in love with literature and words; an escape from reality.

I started reading mystery books, coming of age, horror, science fiction, romance, autobiographies, self-help and pretty much anything/everything that got under my hand. I tried not to judge a book by its cover.. but how can you not? So I decided to rely on the first chapter. If it was going to grab my attention.. that’s where I hoped it would.

..but why?

Some say that actions speak louder than words.. but do they really? The way we act and the things we say don’t always align with each other. It’s easy to forget what you said or did.. until it really matters to someone. Unless.. how do we know if it really matters to us, the sender or the recipient, or both? Did we tell the person how important it was to us? ..or did we assume it was important to them?

It’s not always necessary to make it obvious but when it matters, it should be made clear. Our brains are so full of thoughts, already trying to remember basically everything! It’s when we start writing things down that we’re able to lighten our cognitive load. We do this to function better and allow our brains to rest from all this thinking we do; making things more concrete. (also for many, our reasons for blogging)

and so..

Since high school, I started collecting quotes along the way. Some I’ve lost through shutting down old blogs, and others I’ve kept because they mattered a little more.

So, here’s to remembering quotes that mattered to me, and maybe they’ll mean something to you.
